Emery Jane Turns 1!!!

We have seriously been on the go since she turned one!  I have not been able to update the blog until now.  So, here is her first watermelon themed birthday party.  We had it the day before her actual birthday at Bur Mil Park in Greensboro.  Having it at a park was perfect!  The weather was beautiful (we were under a shelter so we had shade from the sun), there was a large grassy area and playground for the kids, and we were next to the bathrooms.  Plus, we didn't have to entertain a ton of people at our house.  

I couldn't find any invitations I really liked, so I bought the paper and made my own:

 I just happened to come across an "E" garden flag in the party colors:

 I  made the "happy birthday" banner out of card stock, stickers, ribbon, and twine.  The green chevron table cloth came from Hobby Lobby:

 This precious highchair was Pat's grandmother's (born in 1923!).  Both of our kids use it when they are at Nanny and Pops' house.  I also made the banner on the front of the highchair.  Pat's mom made the bow for me:

 The pink and green popcorn came from Gatlyn's at Friendly Center.  The owners have a little girl, Gatlyn, who will be in class with Owen!  

I put cupcake liners in the bottom of the cups to give them some color.  The pink square container is from the $1 store.  The printed birthday toppers were ordered on ETSY:

 

Strawberry waffers and watermelon Oreos:

 A friend of mine from our play group made the birthday cake, smash cake, and cookies.  I ordered the labels from Shutterfly.  They say, "Thanks a melon, love Emery Jane".

 Baby food jars filled with jelly beans.  I stuck a label on the front, glued a mini cupcake liner on the top of the jar, and tied twine around the whole thing:

 I made the centerpieces out of a small watermelon, paper disc, paper lantern, and watermelon sucker.  I glued the sticks on the paper disc and lantern so I could stick them into the watermelon.  I found the suckers at the $1 store!

 For food, we grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, ate chips, pasta salad, gold fish, veggie sticks, applesauce, and watermelon.

 A lady from Kindermusik came and did a little class with the kids.  She sang songs, danced, played musical instruments, and brought scarves and a parachute for the children to play with.  Emery's favorite instrument was the egg shaker!

It's hard to believe our little princess is one year old now!  Thanks to everyone who helped plan her party, prepare, decorate, and clean up!  We appreciate everything!  Also, thanks to all of our family and friends who were there to celebrate with us!

12 months!

Happy first birthday, Emery Jane!!  This is your last monthly birthday post.  You are no longer a baby anymore, and mommy and daddy are a little sad!  You have changed so much over this past year.

On the day you were born, here were your stats:
-weight:  7 pounds, 6 ounces
-height:  19.5 inches
-head circumference:  13 inches

We haven't been to your 12 month well-visit yet, but we estimate you weigh about 25 pounds right now.

You also:

 Daily schedule at 12 months:
-wake up between 6:00 and 7:00
-nurse

-morning snack between 9:00-10:00 (5 ounces of milk in a sippy cup, grain, and fruit)
-play time
-lunch between 12:00-1:00 (5 ounce bottle of milk, fruit, veggie, and protein)
-play time
-nap right after lunch
-afternoon snack when you wake up (fruit/cheese and crackers)
-play time
-dinner between 5:30-6:00 (grain, protein, fruit/vegetable)
-bath
-night time bottle of milk (8 ounces) right before bed
-bedtime is between 7:30-8:00

 When we make your bottles/sippy cups of milk, we mix 1/2 breast milk with 1/2 whole milk.  We still have to warm it in order for you to drink it, but at least we've started to make the transition to whole milk!  Now I only nurse you in the mornings and on the weekends (just because it's easier then carrying and making bottles when we are always on the go).  You love to eat baby food in pouches and regular table food.  If we are eating something, you typically point to it and grunt so we end up sharing!  Every evening at dinner, you hand Owen your fork so he can put a piece of food on it for you!  It's really cute (and Owen feels like he is helping out).

Your little temper started coming out this past month!  If Owen or one of your friends tries to take something you have (or gets in your space), you squeal and say, "mine, mine, mine!".  I'll admit, it's pretty darn funny!  You might be small, but you get your point across!  We will have to work on sharing...

Yesterday you were supposed to go in for your allergy skin test, however, they discovered you had another ear infection so we had to postpone the test for a third time.  Now you go back in the beginning of August.  Poor girl.  The doc said he is noticing a trend that whenever you get sick, your asthma flares up, meaning it's viral-induced.  If this is the case, then the skin test won't tell us much, if anything at all.
