Busy Bees!
Like I said in a recent blog, our crazy summer has begun! Saturday morning Amy and Aiden came by to drop off my birthday present. They gave me a gift certificate to the spa at Grandover!! I can't wait to schedule a massage asap! Thanks guys for the awesome gift!
We had several parties to go to this weekend in Raleigh so we went down for the day on Saturday. The first party didn't start until 1:00 so I decided to go by the Patsy Aiken tent sale. Of course, the boys selection was limited, but I've gotten used to that by now. I did manage to find a cute summer romper for Owen. It seems like in every clothing store I go to, for every one boy outfit there are at least six girl ones. Oh well. I'm pretty sure Owen won't have to go naked...
After doing a little shopping, we went by CMI jewelry store and had my rings checked out and cleaned. Apparently, you are supposed to have them checked every 6 months. I've failed to do that! Thankfully, they are in great shape (and nice and clean).
After CMI, I was off to my friend Tracey's baby shower. Tracey and I used to work together in Durham. She is due August 25th with a little boy, Asher Thomas. It was great to see her and catch up.
Next, we headed to Cooper's first birthday party/fiesta. Cooper is Ben and Hillary's little boy. He is so stinking cute! Below are some pics from the fiesta. As you can see, there were a few "big kids" at the party as well...
Today we went to the pool, hung some decorations in the nursery, and had dinner with a possible nanny prospect. While at the pool, Pat and I were joking that Owen loves to swim! I was sitting in a chair drying off and we could see lots of movement all over my belly! It was obvious that he was awake and very active! As soon as we got in the car to leave- nothing!
Tomorrow we will celebrate my 27th birthday!

Our crazy summer begins...
We had such a busy weekend! Unfortunately, I didn't get home until late on Friday evening because I had a late pick-up at work. One of my parents was 20 minutes late! Oh well, I made $10 in late fees!
Once I finally got home, Pat and I went to run some errands at Target and Babies R Us to buy gifts for several showers/parties coming up. Then we ate dinner at one of our regular restaurants: Poblano's. After dinner, we met some friends downtown. We ended up staying out until 1:00! That's late for us- especially being pregnant!
We had a full day planned for Saturday. First, we went to Peaceful Beginnings in the morning and completed our diaper registery. It's a small place so it didn't take long! The boutique isn't open on Saturdays so we had the store to ourselves!
While researching information on cloth diapers, I came across Charlie's Soap products. These products include powder detergent, liquid detergent, and all-purpose cleaner. If you aren't familiar with Charlie's Soap, here is a little information on their powder detergent:

During the week, Pat was out making calls for business and came across a little store in Mayodan that said "Charlie's Soap Outlet" so we decided to drive out there and see if they were open. Once we found the store, we were so excited to find all of the products at very cheap prices. After talking with the saleswoman, we learned that Charlie's Soap is made in Mayodan and that store was a distributor so that's why they were so cheap. We stocked up on soap! We bought four bags of powder detergent (one little bag is enough for 80 loads!), one liquid detergent, one gallon jug of all-purpose cleaner, and one spray bottle. We saved way more than we spent in gas to get there, so it was definitely worth it!
After venturing out to Mayodan, we had to come home and clean the house- yuck. We only had a few hours to get the job done because our friends Sam and Kelly were coming to stay with us from Raleigh. I tried to clean fast in hopes of getting an afternoon nap, but that didn't work out as planned! Sam and Kelly arrived around 5:00 and we headed over to Jamestown for Jay and Michele's Mexican-themed wedding party. It rained almost the whole time we were there, but at least the temperature cooled off! The pregnant women appreciated that (did I mention there were three pregnant women there, all due in November!).
Our night didn't end here. We decided to venture out downtown again. This time, only staying out until 12:30! My plans for today...NAPPING.

Baby Registery
Finally. We registered. It was a long process let me tell you. After months of researching, reading consumer reports, comparing prices, and talking with other moms, we finally bit the bullet and registered. As soon as we walked in Babies R Us, the registery desk was slammed packed with expectant moms and their spouses/mothers. Pat's first words out of his mouth: "This is going to take forever." He was right.
While patiently waiting our turn, I started chatting with another woman. Come to find out, we are due on the same day! She was very nice to talk to, making the time go by a little faster.
Then it happened. It was our turn. The sales lady handed us the gun- the registery gun. Anxious to get started, I walked away ready to begin scanning and realized I forgot the gun on the desk. Oops. I'll blame that one on pregnancy brain.
As we started browsing the shelves, we realized there is A LOT to choose from. You can only prepare yourself/plan ahead so much for what you think you might need. Honestly, I never thought about things like outlet covers, medicine, a first aid kit, sun shades, and butt paste. Geez. So many decisions. So many colors. So many brands. I was dead-set on diapers, a pacifier, bottles, car seats, and a stroller. Not all of the other stuff...
Two hours later, we were DONE!
Thankfully, Babies R Us allows you to add/change/delete items online!
We will tackle the diaper registery at a later date...

Junk to Jewels
A few months ago, my mom and I went to a yard sale and found a cute child-size table and chairs. They were made of wood and looked like they were in pretty good shape. So I figured, what the heck, I'll buy them.
Weeks later, Pat and I found a beat-up rocking horse at a church yard sale. I've been looking for a rocking horse, but not exactly one like this. I bought it anyways, took it home, and ripped off the yucky yarn "hair". I could see it had potential. I decided to call my Pawpaw Pipes. I knew he could fix this horse and transform it into something a little more appealing (along with the table and chairs). After stripping the horse, adding some pieces of wood here and there, and re-painting it, it looks FABULOUS! I was so excited to pick it up!
He painted the base of the rocking horse with a stone textured spray paint:

OTL
We were so excited to announce the name yesterday that we forgot to explain where it came from! When we first started thinking about names, I made a list of about 7 boy names that I liked. The list included: Holden, Harper, Landon, Carson, Owen, Tucker, and Parker. See a pattern here? For some reason I seem to like two syllable names.
Pat's list included names like Fletcher, Nolan, Nathan, Wesley, and Turner.
While at the pool on Sunday, we were discussing name possibilities and Pat said he really wanted to use the name Turner (either for the first name or the middle name). So I suggested Owen Turner. As soon as I said it, Pat said, "I like that." Yay! Finally a name we BOTH liked!
If you're wondering, the name Turner is after the Braves baseball field, Turner Field. He had to slip a little baseball reference in there!

Daddy's attic apparel
After we found out we were having a boy, Pat's mom went through her attic and pulled out some of his baby clothes and shoes that she saved. They are so adorable! It's hard to imagine my husband, being the manly-man that he is, wearing such precious, delicate clothes! I love it! See below for a few of my favorites. Soon enough, our son will be wearing these!
The sweater on top was Pat's and the sweater on the bottom was mine (handmade by my great-grandmother):
