Birth and Baby

Last night we went to our first birth and baby class at the Women's Hospital. This class lasts a total of 5 weeks. There are about 10 couples in our class. So far it seems like we scored a good teacher (Trust me, I've heard some stories about some of the teachers there!). During our first class, we learned about problems/complications during pregnancy, preterm labor signs, actual labor, and watched a detailed video of the birth process. At the end of class we did some breathing and relaxation exercises, and spouse massages. Overall, it was a very informative class. Our homework for next week includes having the car seat installed, choosing a pediatrician, and watching a few short internet videos.

It's hard to believe Owen is due in 7 weeks!!!!

Ladies Baby Shower 9-25-10

On Saturday, I had my first baby shower given by Cheryl Stevens, Lynn Patterson, Amy Hall, and Anne Groch. These ladies did a fabulous job planning everything from the invitations, to the decorations, to the yummy food! Pat, Owen, and I appreciate all of their hard work and all of the generous baby gifts we received. Thanks to our family and friends who were there to celebrate! Here a few pics from the shower:

Wedding #2

Today we returned from another wonderful wedding weekend in Asheville, NC. This weekend, our friends Jay and Michele tied the knot. Pat and I made a long weekend out of the trip since this was our last getaway before baby Owen arrives. We took off Friday and headed up to Asheville early. Once we were there, we walked around downtown, grabbed some dinner, and met up with the rehearsal dinner crew at Pack Tavern. The wedding and reception took place at the Crest Center. The view was amazing (as you will see in the pics below).

30 weeks

Getting a little uncomfortable...

Several evenings/nights last week I had horrible back pain on the right side of my body. It was so bad that it kept me up throughout the night. When I was at my 30 week check-up I asked the doctor if this was normal. He said I was having muscle spasms and yes, it was normal. Unfortunately, it's only going to get worse, the more I grow. To help ease the pain, he recommended putting my feet up whenever possible (like this is possible working with 3 and 4 year olds), taking Tylenol every few days, wearing a heating pad, and wearing a maternity support band. The only two options that I agreed with are the heating pad and the support band.

Guess what we did today? That's right, bought a maternity support band AND new running shoes! I saw some shoes that (1) I really wanted, (2) they were on sale, (3) I haven't bought new running shoes in years, and (4) I figured if I wear comfy shoes then that should definitely help with the pain. Right? Hey, I had to convince Pat I needed them somehow...

Owen has the same shoes as mommy! I found these a few months ago at a consignment sale and had to buy them! They are so tiny!

Saturday we went to Chapel Hill to attend our brother-in-laws MBA school graduation. Following the graduation, we had lunch at Weathervane at A Southern Season.
