14 week appointment
Today was our 14 week appointment. It was just a regular routine visit so they weighed me, checked my blood pressure, tested my urine, and listened to the heartbeat (which was 157 bpm). So far, I have gained a total of 3 pounds. The doctor estimates I will gain 20-25 during my entire pregnancy.

A trip to Wilmington
This weekend, Amy and I went to visit our dear friend Anne in Wilmington. Despite the fact that it took us 5 hours to get there, we had a great time catching up on life. I love you girls!

Mother's Day 2010
I have always loved Mother's Day. Maybe it's because I am an only child and have an extremely close relationship with my mom. Who knows. This Mother's Day was extra special for me. It was my first unofficial Mother's Day. After seeing Baby Lehman on the last ultrasound, I already feel a special attachment to our beautiful child. My heart melted when we saw our precious, happy baby in the womb. Oh, how I hope the next six months fly by so I can hold this baby in my arms!! For my first Mother's Day, Pat was sweet and took me on a mini shopping spree. One of my purchases consisted of a new bathing suit to accommodate this growing belly of mine.
We started the day off with brunch at Printworks Bistro (at the Proximity Hotel) with my parents and grandparents. As always, it was delicious. After brunch, Pat and I ran some errands, walked the dogs in the park, got the car washed, and took a quick power nap before going to my parents for a home-cooked southern meal. I have to admit- on the way home we took a little detour to get milkshakes for dessert! Hey, the doctor said for me to make sure I'm getting enough calcium...
We celebrated Mother's Day with Pat's family on Saturday night. Katy and Paul came in town and we went to Liberty Oak downtown for dinner. As always, it was great to get together with both of our families!

1st trimester screening
Today was our 1st trimester screening appointment done at 12 weeks. This consisted of an ultrasound (to measure the thickness at the back of the neck and the nose of the fetus) and blood work. The purpose of this appointment was to screen for Down Syndrome and Trisomy 21 and 18. As soon as the ultrasound tech placed the probe on my belly, we saw Baby Lehman having a party in there! He/she was waving his arms in the air, rolling over, and jumping/floating up and down! It was really amazing to see- especially since I can't feel anything. It was hard for the tech to measure the heartbeat because of all the movement. Finally, the baby was still for a second, just long enough to get a measurement, which was 161 bpm.

Bernie's Berries
On Saturday, Pat and I went to pick strawberries from Bernie's Berries on Groomtown Road. We visit Bernie at least once a year for our annual strawberry picking. I've picked berries from several other patches around town, and Bernie's Berries is by far the best (plus she taught at our high school)! She also has other produce for sale including cabbage, lettuce, squash, and cucumbers. If you live in the area, and want more info on Bernie's Berries, check out her website:
