What happened to my little boy??
He looks so old after getting his hair cut today!

6 months old!

Emery Jane, happy half birthday sweet girl!  Six months old is a big milestone!  Look how much you've grown since your birthday:

birth:
-weight: 7 pounds, 6 ounces
-height:  19.5 inches
-head circumference:  13 inches

today:
-weight:  16 pounds, 8 ounces (59th percentile)
-height:  25 3/4 inches (45th percentile)
-head circumference:  17.49

You have had some pretty big accomplishments this past month.  You rolled over from your tummy to your back, you tried lots of different kinds of baby food (including mum-mum crackers), you played in your johnny jump-up for the first time, you completely transitioned to your crib, you celebrated your first Christmas, and you learned how to put yourself to sleep!!  We are most excited about this last accomplishment!  Here you are snuggled up with your bunny in your crib:
Unfortunately, this month you got your first sickness.  You had a terrible respiratory infection.  After a fever, nasty cough, congestion, wheezing, breathing treatments, sleeping at an angle, and two trips to the doctor, you are finally on the mend.  Thank goodness!

At 6 months old, you wear a size 2 diaper, 9-12 months in clothes, and a size 1-2 shoe.  You are still wearing your helmet for most of the day/night.  We actually go back to the doctor this Friday to have your head re-measured.  We've seen progress so hopefully you won't have to wear it as long.  Your eyes are still bright blue, and your fuzzy hair is starting to grow back!  It isn't quite long enough for a bow, but it is starting to lie down on your head!

As far as your routine goes, you wake up around 7:00, eat, play, then go back down for a morning nap.  Throughout the day, you take about four cat naps.  Most of your naps range from 30-45 minutes.  You typically drink about 30-36 ounces of breast milk a day (either in a bottle or nurse).  We feed you baby food, along with your milk, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Bedtime is still 8:00 sharp.

For your bedtime routine, we read one book, feed you a bottle while rocking in your chair, put you in the crib and give you your bunny, then kiss you good night.  You usually play with your bunny for about 5-10 minutes then pass out!  Unlike your brother, it only took you 3 days of sleep training to learn how to put yourself to sleep. It took Owen almost a week.  Since we started the sleep training, you sleep much better- sometimes going all night without waking up!

Emery Jane, some of your favorite things right now are watching and playing with Owen, your pink bunny lovie, petting the dogs, trying hard to roll over, playing with paper, sitting up, eating, going for stroller rides, putting everything in your mouth, blowing bubbles, sucking on your toes, popping your lips, cooing, and taking a bath.  You've started to show some signs of stranger anxiety this month.  Sometimes if unfamiliar people talk to you, you cry.  Or if you wake up in your car seat and can't see mommy or daddy you get upset.  Thankfully, we can calm you down pretty quickly!

We are so, so thankful for the joy you bring to our lives.  You and your brother have made our family complete.  How could we ever be so lucky??  We love you to the moon and back sweet girl!

Christmas!

It's amazing how much preparation, decorating, shopping, and planning goes into Christmas every year- and just like that, it's over.  This year was the best year yet for Christmas at our house.  Owen is finally old enough to understand the Christmas story, he woke up every morning excited to see where the elf was hiding, he enjoyed doing special things for other people (as well as buying and wrapping presents), and he found complete joy in Santa.  It was also Emery's first Christmas.  Pat and I were sitting here talking about how special Christmas is when you have kids to share it with.  As we took down the decorations, it was a bit sad, but we reflected on the wonderful time we had with our loved ones.

Poor guy

I got a phone call yesterday morning from Owen's teacher telling me he had a block thrown at his head.  He was upset and bleeding, but they weren't sure if he needed stitches.  Not a phone call I wanted to get on a rainy, Monday morning.
Luckily, we managed to escape stitches this time.  Now he is just left with a perfect, rectangular bruise.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
