Pool days

Little man absolutely loves the swimming pool.  Every time we go, he gets a little braver and does something new.  Today, he kept putting his whole head under water!  We want him to continue to enjoy the water, and eventually learn to swim.  Pat and I stood close by, letting him have his independence.

My parents, Mimi and Papa Riddle, were at Ocean Isle this weekend, so we will celebrate with them when they get back.

Owen's big boy bedding (that I ordered two months ago) finally came in!  We aren't making the switch yet, just buying stuff here and there.

 Pat turned his back for a second in REI the other day, and this is where we found Owen..

 Thankfully, today's hair cut experience was a positive one!  I give all the credit to Mr. Kelly, the famous Jamestown barber :)

Book One

In preparation for my new job at GDS, I have a number of books to read.  The first one I read was Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath.  I had to read the book and complete an online assessment.  The purpose of this assessment is to help people uncover their talents.  It also gives strategies for applying your strengths.

Here are my results (nothing surprising here!):

Includer

People who are especially talented in the Includer theme are accepting of others. They show awareness of those who feel left out, and make an effort to include them.

Responsibility

People who are especially talented in the Responsibility theme take psychological ownership of what they say they will do. They are committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty.

Discipline

People who are especially talented in the Discipline theme enjoy routine and structure. Their world is best described by the order they create.

Achiever

People who are especially talented in the Achiever theme have a great deal of stamina and work hard. They take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.

Learner

People who are especially talented in the Learner theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. In particular, the process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites them.

Mr. Independent

It's so nice that Owen wants to do everything by himself these days.  Sometimes this requires a little extra time, a little extra patience, or an extra change of clothes.  I have to remind myself that while he is becoming more independent, he is also engaging in trial and error, cause and effect, problem solving, and hands-on learning...all very important skills in the years to come.

 Apparently, he is also learning how to share with his friends furry siblings...
