Sunday with the Lehmans
Even though we got in our first (and hopefully last) car accident yesterday, and the weather was crappy today, we managed to make the best of it. The three of us woke up at 7:30, ate yummy cinnamon buns, and got ready for church.
After church, Nanny and Pops met us at Smith Street Diner for lunch. Owen sat at the table like a big boy, carefully eying Pops' cup of coffee every time he took a sip. If Owen is anything like his mommy and daddy, then he will love a good latte.
Costco and Target were next on our agenda. Then home at last to put on comfy clothes, have a little play time, and watch some basketball.

Dinner from the farmer's market: pork chops, fresh green beans, zucchini and squash, and plums. The best part...leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

4 months old
Owen turned 4 months old on March 10th.
He had his 4 month check-up today. He was asleep when we got there so I had to wake him up once the nurse called us back. I undressed him, took him to get weighed, then the doc did the physical exam. He said everything looks great! Owen was very cooperative until Dr. L looked in his ears. Then he broke out the sad face and cried. Little did he know, that was the easy part! After the physical exam, he got a liquid vaccine and three shots in his legs. Poor baby. He HATED the shots (so did mommy). It was pitiful to see such big crocodile tears running down his fat little cheeks! On the way out of the office we ran into my friend Amy and her little boy. We were lucky enough to have them come over and visit us later this afternoon. Aiden played baseball while Owen enjoyed hanging out on the blanket, getting some fresh air.
Here are Owen's current stats:
Birth:
At four months old you drink 7 ounces of breast milk/formula every 4 hours, take small cat naps throughout the day, sleep about 9-10 hours at night in your crib, wear 6-9 month clothing, smile constantly, sit yourself up in your car seat, and babble all of the time. You have tried homemade rice cereal several times this month. Learning to eat from a spoon is hard work! You have also rolled over two times from your back to your tummy, and upgraded to your sleep sack (no more swaddle blanket!). You enjoy your bumbo seat, exersaucer, johhny jump-up, front porch swing, ergo carrier, and bouncy seat. When we place toys in front of you, you reach out and grab them. Then you put them straight in your mouth! You still enjoy being read and sung to. You prefer to sit up and look around as opposed to lying on the floor. Over the past few weeks, you have really started to notice Mason and Raleigh. Whenever they walk by, you turn your head to see where they are going. At the end of the day, when mommy and daddy pick you up from school, your eyes light up! You get so excited to see us. It's definitely the best feeling in the world!
Owen, you had your first weekend away from mommy and daddy a few weeks ago. We went to Ocean Isle Beach and you stayed with Mimi and Papa Riddle. We missed you soooo much, but you had a great time eating out, shopping, and visiting with family members.
Everyone tells us you look just like your daddy. I'll admit, we agree (especially after looking at all of our baby pics!). Most of your baby hair has fallen out, and your new big boy hair is slowly starting to fill in. It looks dark brown but it's really hard to tell right now. Your eyes are still bright blue, and sparkling all of the time!
This month there were a lot of germs in the air. Mommy and daddy both got sick, and you had a yeast infection under your neck (from slobber and milk dribbling down under your rolls), an eye infection, and a cold. Thankfully, you feel much better now.
We have so much to look forward to in April: your baby dedication, your first beach trip, and Easter!

Saving on Sunday
Today was our first successful money-saving, coupon-shopping, extra-care-buck-earning trip to CVS! I would say we did a pretty good job to be beginners at this!
I'm a sucker for magazines. I happened to have a coupon for "People". Score!
We earned $2.50 in ECBs today to put towards our next purchase
Speaking of coupons, today I planned on going to Kohl's. I don't love Kohl's, but I like Kohl's. Every now and then I come across cute stuff. I hit the jack pot today!
- During a previous trip to CVS, I spent $25 on baby items and earned $10 in ECBs (extra care bucks)
- Today we bought 12 items
- We saved $12.77 from store sale prices and BOGO deals
- We had 5 manufacturer's coupons that saved us $7.98
- I used the $10 in ECBs from my last visit
- Total spent today= $20.87
- Total savings today= $30.75
Don't get me wrong, we love M&Ms, but three of the small bags were free after BOGO and a manufacturer's coupon, so that's how we ended up with so many bags!

- After today's purchases, I received $10 in Kohl's cash to put towards my next purchase- another reason to get me back in the door right?

Follow up...
The past two nights went well. He is back to sleeping through the night! He was so tired last night he slept from 10 to 7:30, woke up to eat, then went back down until 10 this morning!

Sleepless nights...
Wowzers. I'm exhausted. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. I'm not sure what is going on with Owen (besides having a cold) but the past two nights were sleepless- for everyone. Here is the play by play:
-Friday night: slept all night
-Saturday night: slept all night
-Sunday night: slept all night
-Monday night: up at 2 to eat; back to bed until 7:30
-Tuesday night: up at 1 to eat, then 1:30 to finish eating; cried out numerous times so I patted him back to sleep each time; woke up @ 7:30
-Wednesday night: up at 12 screaming; Pat fed him and put him back down; screamed every hour after that. Each time he screamed I patted him back to sleep. He only slept for about 20 minutes then he was screaming again. Eventually I gave up and put him in our bed to fall back asleep (big no-no). Once he fell asleep in our bed, I put him back in his crib. Not even 20 minutes went by and he was screaming again. Back in to pat him. Back in our bed. Finally at 4 I was beat. I put him in our bed until he woke up at 8:30. Pat and I looked at each other clueless. He NEVER cries, especially like this. We knew he wasn't hungry because he ate at midnight. He didn't have a fever. I thought he had an ear infection, but the doc said no. Maybe teething? A developmental change in sleep patterns? How about a growth spurt? Who knows.
Here is how tonight went:
Fed him at 8:30. Usually I can lie him in his crib after he eats and he will fall asleep. Not tonight. He cried the minute I put him down. Oh boy, round two. I had to rock him for about 15 minutes and he went to sleep. I carefully put him in his crib and he stayed asleep! As soon as I got downstairs he was crying. Pat headed up to pat him and I stopped him. For some reason, I decided he needed to try and put himself back to sleep (I know he can do it). After about 10 minutes of on-and-off crying, he fell asleep! For now anyways...
Being sick and taking care of a sick kid is not fun. I hope these sleepless nights are a result of his cold, and we will soon get back on a sleeping-through-the-night schedule. At least tomorrow is Friday (and it's supposed to be extremely nice outside), so things are looking bright!

-supper club at the Blackwell's tomorrow night
-consignment sales Saturday
-practice dog training
-my work dinner party Saturday night
-church and grocery store on Sunday
