Sherman is that you??
Every time Owen sneezes, Pat calls him Sherman. For the longest time I could not figure out where he got the name Sherman from. Then he told me- David Letterman. Now I get it: Sherman the sneezing monkey
I've got my eye on you!
Mr. Owen has become very observant these days. As I mentioned before, he loves to stare at the ceiling fan! The fan is brown against a light blue ceiling so it definitely catches his eye. I swear he could stare at this thing for 30 minutes! He also loves to look at the picture over our sofa in the den. Research shows that babies at this age can see things up to 12 inches from their face and anything past that is contrast (differentiating between dark and light). Yesterday I decided to get out his play mat and see if he would be interested. Interested is an understatement! He LOVED it! I rattled all the little toys to see if he would look at them and sure enough, he turned his head to see what was going on! He only lasted for about 5 minutes then I think he became overstimulated! Oh well, at least he liked it!

Papa Riddle
Papa Riddle has been with the Guilford County Sheriffs Department for 18 years. Every 4 years he has to get sworn back into the department. Last year, he missed the ceremony because he was in Ohio. This year, we got to go and show Owen off to all of his coworkers. Of course, Owen slept through the whole thing, but that was just fine considering it was a pretty quiet/formal ceremony. Congrats Papa Riddle, and to all law enforcement officers out there who protect and serve our community while putting their life on the line! We appreciate everything you do!

Christmas came early for the McKinneny's! Kyle found out last week that he got accepted to two dental schools- ECU and Carolina! I think he has decided to go to Carolina, starting in August.Congratulations Kyle on getting into dental school! We are so happy for you! Your hard work and determination paid off!

Almost one month
This week (Friday) Owen will be one month old! That is so hard to believe! Over the past month, Owen has done a lot, seen a lot, and changed a lot! We started taking him out in public when he was only 4 days old. I know, that's early, but he had a doctor's appointment so it wasn't really a choice. Since then, he has been all over town! His favorite places include Hanes Mall, Undercurrent, Mom and Baby yoga, Costco, and Target (he was actually awake when we went to these places!). He has only slept in his crib twice because he really likes his pack-n-play hammock that vibrates and plays music! Plus he isn't flat on his back. We are currently experimenting with naps in the crib.
Owen started cooing last Friday, especially after he has a full belly! He also started having tummy time. The first time we tried this, he lifted up his head and moved it to look at the other side! This boy has a strong head/neck! We have to be extra careful when holding him on our shoulder because he lifts his head so much! Owen also really likes it when you sing to him. Whenever we sing the ABC's or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, he goes in a daze! I wonder if he enjoys this so much because I used to sing a lot with my kids at school when I was pregnant. One of Owen's favorite things is his pacifier...and Lord, don't let us get caught without it! Unfortunately, we lost one while at Costco and had to make a mad dash to Babies R Us and buy another one! Needless to say, now that thing stays on a paci clip!
Based on our home scale, Owen weighs in at 9 pounds! The way he likes to eat, I knew he had to be packing on the pounds! He eats about every 3/4 hours, followed by some awake time for about 30 minutes to an hour. I think Owen and I both have finally mastered nursing- it only took us 4 weeks! The challenging part (other moms out there fill free to offer advice) is pumping and storing extra. We still have to work on that!

Happy Birthday!!
November 24, 2010. This was a special day this year for several reasons. First, it was Pat's 28th birthday. Second, it was Owen's 2 week birthday. A year ago, who would have thought we would have so much to celebrate??
To make this birthday extra special for Pat, I bought him a pair of major league baseball authenticated game-used baseball cufflinks from, you got it, Turner Field. The Braves happen to be Pat's favorite MLB team, and who Owen is named after. The cufflinks come with a hologram number that you can look up to find out information about the ball that was used to make his specific pair of cufflinks. Such information includes the two teams that played, game stats, players, etc.
