Weekend

Daddy was away this weekend playing golf in Pinehurst, so Mimi came to play!  Friday evening we picked up pizza from Elizabeth's for dinner and came home to have a little picnic.  Then on Saturday, we met Nanny and Pops for breakfast, took Owen to get his hair cut, and went to the Science Center.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous.

After Owen's nap, we went by the pet store (Owen loves to look at the birds and bunnies) and to eat Mexican.  Emery Jane ate refried beans for the first time!

Daddy came back on Sunday and we went to Caroline's first birthday party.  We enjoyed singing with Mrs. Evan, playing with all the babies, and eating cupcakes.  What a great weekend!

OMG

First we were snowed in for two days, then we were hit hard with the stomach bug for three days.  Owen got it on Thursday.  Then Pat got it Friday, and me on Saturday.  We were all deathly ill...fever, stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and body aches.  Saturday morning we had to call my in-laws to come over and get Emery because we knew we couldn't take care of her (and we wanted to keep her away from the germs if at all possible).  Thank goodness they live so close and are always willing to help!  At one point, Pat and I both thought we needed to go to the hospital because we seriously could not stop vomiting, but neither one of us could drive.

Having said that, I haven't left the house since I got home on Wednesday, we had to cancel our Valentine's Day dinner, and we really didn't get to enjoy Snow Break 2014.

At least this little girl didn't get it.  Hopefully the breast milk is doing it's job!

Snow Break 2014

Spring Break is a month away and we are currently enjoying Snow Break!  School let out at noon yesterday for me and the kids.  No school Thursday and Friday.  I actually don't go back to work until Wednesday of next week (Monday and Tuesday are professional development days).

When the kids woke up this morning at 7 am, we were off to a great start...breakfast, coffee, and cartoons.  While Owen played outside in the snow, Emery and I made her school valentines.  Then, when Owen came back inside, we put his together.  As the morning progressed, Owen kept telling us his tummy hurt.  He lost interest in the valentines, didn't feel like playing, told me he was tired, and refused to eat lunch.  Our "snow day" quickly turned into a "sick day"...puke and all.

Wordless Wednesday...

7 months old!

Happy 7 month birthday, Emery Jane!

Here are your stats:

birth:

-weight: 7 pounds, 6 ounces

-height:  19.5 inches

-head circumference:  13 inches

today:

-weight:  ~18 pounds

Your eyes are blue, your hair is filling in nicely (just enough for a bow), and you still don't have any teeth!  Owen got his first one at seven months, so we think you will get one very soon.  Everything goes in your mouth right now, and you are drooling nonstop!  I need to cherish that gummy smile of yours before those pearly whites start coming in!

 Currently, you wear 9-12 months in clothes, a size 3 diaper, and 1 in shoes.  You sit up alone, and roll over all the time!  You also continue to put yourself to sleep, and sleep all night!!  We are so thankful for this!  It seems like you prefer to sleep on your tummy because whenever we put you down in your crib, you always immediately roll right over.  

At 7 months old, you typically wake up between 6:30-7:30 am, take three/four 30-45 minute cat naps during the day, and go to bed by 7:00 pm.

As far as food goes, you are still exclusively drinking breast milk (and some water).  When we put it in a bottle you drink 6 ounces.  You love all baby food!  Everything we give you, you eat.  We only offer stage 1/2 food because anything thicker than that, you struggle with.  I don't ever remember Owen gagging as much as you do at this age.  We have noticed that if the baby food contains rice, oatmeal, or any type of grain, it's difficult for you to eat.

Highlights and favorite things from this month include:

-trying a sippy cup for the first time

-eating yogurt and yogurt drops

-feeding yourself (practicing your pincer grasp)

-sleeping on your tummy

-recognizing your name

-your first snow!

-transitioning to your new car seat

-playing with Owen

-twirling tags

-putting everything in your mouth

-watching other people 

-crumbling paper

-splashing in the bathtub

-banging stuff together

Emery Jane, Owen, daddy, and I love you so, so much!  You are beautiful inside and out.  Your smile, big blue eyes, and precious personality shine above all else.  We thank God everyday for our little angel!

Hi!

Hi friends!  I hope you didn't give up on us!  We are still here...just juggling this thing we call life.  Here is where we've been, and where we're going.

Pat recently joined the gym, bought a car, and continues to travel.  He is a hard-working daddy and we can't thank him enough!

I have been working more than usual lately (hosting Saturday play dates for prospective families and teaching professional development classes).  I'm also going into my 4th week of an online child nutrition course through Stanford University.  It's not hard, just time consuming.  Between work, class, bible study, wine night with the girls, and a few date nights here and there, I've been busy!

 Owen is your typical three year old...testing boundaries, striving for independence, living on the edge, and ALL BOY!  He loves his little sister dearly!  He kisses her nonstop!  Recently, Owen had a babysitter for the first time!  Pat and I had a few events to attend around Christmas, so we finally gave in and called a sitter.  She works at Owen's school, so thankfully, Owen loves her!  We've actually called her several times over the past month.  Owen has also enjoyed playing in the snow, riding his sled, and shoveling the driveway.  This past weekend, Owen transitioned into a booster car seat!  Our little boy is becoming quite the little man these days!

Emery Jane turned 7 months old on January 30th!  I'll do a specific post on that later.  Emery is now eating all stage 1 and 2 baby food and yogurt (along with nursing), sitting up on her own, putting herself to sleep, sleeping all night long (on her tummy), and smiling at everything!  She weighs about 18 pounds and wears 12 months in clothes.  Emery is a chunky little thing with lots of rolls!  She continues to wear her helmet most of the day and while she is sleeping.  We go back at the end of this month for another assessment.  Emery transitioned into a convertible car seat this past weekend.  No more bucket seat!
