This afternoon we headed down to Raleigh to celebrate Spencer's 1st birthday (which is the same day as Owen's). As you can see from the pics, it was a football themed party. We had fun celebrating with the birthday boy, and visiting with our Raleigh friends.

After we got back to Greensboro, we went to see our supper club friends, Lindsey and Blake. They couldn't make it to Owen's birthday party so they gave him his gift today. Their pup, Molly Kate, helped Owen open his gift and he thought that was hilarious! He laughed so hard- I'm talking deep belly laughs! Lindsey got it on video so I will see if she can send it to me. We are very excited for Lindsey and Blake because they are having a little one in June!

Since we were already out and about, we decided to stop by K&W for dinner. It's not our favorite place to go, but it was close by. Plus, Owen had never been to K&W before! He enjoyed riding through the line in a high chair, eating fried okra and sweet potatoes, and drinking milk out of a mini milk jug! We bumped into Emily and Jeff, more of our friends, while at K&W.

Once we got home and put Owen to bed, we decorated the outside of our house. This year we decided to switch it up a little. Instead of the usual garland on the banisters, we put lights in the bushes and bought 2 light-up trees for the front porch.

As you can tell from my last post, I've been behind on blogging lately. Our laptop died a few weeks ago, and it's nearly impossible to blog from our iPad, so I have to use Pat's work computer to blog. Using his work computer isn't a bad thing, but I'm a little cautious since it's not technically ours.

Thanksgiving week

Thanksgiving week started off on a bad note for us.

Sunday evening I had a terrible migraine. After getting sick, I took my migraine medication and put myself to bed, hoping for a better Monday.

Owen ended up staying with his Nanny and Pops on Monday because he wasn't feeling well. They took him to the doctor and found out he had a double ear infection. That explained his high fever and sleepyness the weekend before.

While Owen was at the doctor, I had to go to the hospital. When I was baking cookies with my kids at school, I started feeling dizzy out of nowhwere. I felt like I was going to pass out and immediately broke out in a sweat. I yelled for my co-teacher to help me. Long story short, after tons of bloodwork, an EKG, and CAT scan, I was diagnosed with having an atypical migraine (on Sunday night) causing neurological symptoms such as nausea, severe cramping, loss of feeling in extremeties, dehydration, and passing out. The doc said sometimes with an atypical migraine people can experience stroke-like symptoms, including paralysis of one side of the body, for several days after their actual headache. That's why I couldn't move my fingers, hands, and arms for a LONG time. The whole way to the hospital the paramedic said he thought I was having an anxiety attack. I begged to differ...

*Note to self: avoid wine, cheese, caffeine, chocolate, stress, and bright lights whenever possible to avoid future migraines; oh, and never leave house without meds.

On Tuesday, Owen and I spent the day together at home recovering and catching up on lots of sleep.

Wednesday, Owen and I went to see Amy and her new babe, Jordan. He was so adorable! I forgot what it was like to hold a 7 pound baby! In the afternoon, we ventured out to the grocery store to pick up some groceries and the ingredients to make peanut brittle.

Thursday was Thanksgiving AND daddy's birthday! We ate lunch with the Lehmans then headed over to the Riddles for dinner. Unfortunately, we had to leave shortly after we got there because Owen did not feel good. The antibiotic for his ear infection upsets his little tummy.

For Pat's birthday this year, Owen and I gave him a NC State hooded sweatshirt and P90X! Stay tuned for updates...

During all of the Thanksgiving/birthday/black Friday madness, we managed to decorate for Christmas! More pics to come, but for now, here are a few to hold you over.

Tomorrow, we are off to Raleigh for Spencer's 1st birthday party!

1st haircut

For those of you that know Owen (or look at his pictures), you know that his hair is out of control! Pat says that's what he is known for! Even though we blow dry it every evening, when he wakes up in the morning, his hair is crazy. Usually, I end up wetting it to tame it!

Well, this week I took him to get his first haircut. We made it to his first birthday, so it was time to bite the bullet! Surprisingly, he did great. He was a little confused when the lady sprayed his hair with water, but he loved looking around at everything (the ceiling fans, other children, the televisions, and himself in the mirror!).

As you can see, my deodorant was a great distraction!

After his haircut, I took him over to the toy store. He loves when we go there because he gets to crawl around and play with all of the cool toys. His favorite things to play with are the Lego table, the pretend kitchen, and the train table.

I'm so glad his first haircut was a positive experience!
